The official premiere date for the first Superman teaser under DC Studios has been disclosed by Director James Gunn. Leading the new DC Universe (DCU), Gunn said the teaser will premiere on Thursday, December 19, at 9 AM ET (6 AM PT). As this represents a major turning point for Gunn’s concept of DC’s live-action relaunch, fans have excitedly awaited this moment.
The announcement came from a teaser video Gunn uploaded with an etched Superman logo in metal, which spurred rumours on its source. Might it come from the Hall of Justice, the Fortress of Solitude, or somewhere totally fresh? Along with this, Gunn also displayed an amazing motion poster featuring David Corenswet as Superman swooping across the heavens under the motto “Look Up”.
A Modern Twist on the Legendary Superman Theme
To heighten the suspense, the teaser honours the classic Superman theme from Christopher Reeve‘s 1978 Man of Steel composed by John Williams. The traditional score has been reinterpreted with a more subdued, emotive quality.
The teaser sets a sombre and cinematic tone for the movie with strings and a melancholic voice performance of the known theme instead of the triumphal horns and brass. This contemporary approach signals a hopeful yet grounded version of the iconic superhero by fusing nostalgia with Gunn’s creative direction.

First Look at David Corenswet’s Superman
The motion poster serves as the first official glimpse of David Corenswet in the iconic red and blue suit. Corenswet’s Superman is seen flying upward with his cape flowing, while the reds, blues, and yellows of his costume blur in the background to create a sense of speed and power.

This visual pays subtle tribute to Christopher Reeve’s portrayal while paving the way for a new era. Rachel Brosnahan stars alongside Corenswet as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult takes on the role of the villainous Lex Luthor.
The DCU’s Next Chapter
James Gunn’s Superman, formerly titled Superman: Legacy, is the first major film under Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe. Scheduled to release on July 11, 2025, this project serves as the official launchpad for the DCU’s ambitious slate of interconnected films and shows. While animated series Creature Commandos technically kicks off the new universe, Superman is set to be its defining moment.

Gunn has confirmed that minor pick-up shots are ongoing to fine-tune the film. “We’re doing a day and a half of pickup shots. No scenes. No reshoots. Just a handful of individual shots to enhance the film,” Gunn stated last week.
Star-Studded Team and Future Projects
The superb squad of Superman consists of
- Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl
- Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific
- Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern Guy Gardner
- Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho
- Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen
- Maria Gabriela de Faria as The Engineer
Gunn’s DCU is already generating a lot of buzz even as The Engineer with Supergirl and the Lanterns HBO project is still under development. Maria Gabriela de Faria While other films like The Batman 2 deviate from DCU continuity, Gunn and Safran are more concerned in creating a coherent and creative superhero universe.
A Defining Moment for DC Fans
For DC fans as well as the larger superhero genre, the premiere of the Superman teaser signifies a turning point Will James Gunn bring his trademark mix of humour and emotion shown in Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad, or will Superman cut a more sombre and hopeful tone?
This teaser will establish expectations for what is ahead as the first significant view of Gunn’s vision for the DCU. With Marvel confronting its own difficulties, Superman might bring DC Studios into a fresh golden era.
