Who was Cory Comperatore? 

Cory Compertore was a 50-year-old retired Fire Chief from Sarver, Pennsylvania, retired. He was at the Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, and Former President Donald Trump was campaigning on the Butler Farm Show Grounds, Pennsylvania on July 13, 2024.

His family – including children – were seated in the stands behind Trump. During the rally, a gunman named Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire from a nearby rooftop with a semi-automatic rifle. Corey did not think twice and braved the bullets to protect his wife and daughter.

Tragically, he was fatally shot while protecting them. Unfortunately, he met the same fate when he tried to cover them. The assailant discharged several rounds before being subdued by Secret Service with a semi-automatic assault rifle.

Two other persons who were physically present during the rally were also critically wounded. Former president Donald Trump who was present at the incident was reported to have sustained a graze on the right ear but fortunately didn’t suffer any serious injury.

Corey’s heroic deeds prevented his family from death and maybe a few other people too. This was a cause widely known and many hailed him as a hero even his friends, the neighbours as well as President Joe Biden. It is a lesson that highlights the valiance and altruism a person can show when faced with danger.

Family’s Reaction to Cory Compertore Sacrifice

Corey’s spouse, Lisa, and his daughter, Allyson, were present at the rally when this horrible incident took place. Lisa and Allyson were crushed by the death of Corey. Allyson recalled her father as “the best dad a girl can have.” There is no arguing that her father died a superhero in real life.

In particular, she was in distress about scammers who are seen trying to fraudulently collect money in the family’s name. Dawn said that the family was able to survive this tragedy thanks to love, and with the help of thousands of people. She said, “They kept us standing,” however, she claimed that the time after such loss is really hard.

The family expressed gratitude towards the public for their concern and considering the family and the father in particular in their prayers. They drew strength from the compassionate messages they received from many people across the globe, their church members, and their faith.

They requested for more prayers and for time and space as they are still in grief and trying to come to terms with the fact that Corey is no more. Corey was described as a loyal fireman who had dedicated 30 years to the Buffalo Township Fire Department.

Former President Donald Trump, who was present at the rally, held up Corey’s firefighting gear during the Republican National Convention, calling him “an unbelievable person”. Trump also announced a fundraising effort that raised over $6 million for the victims of the shooting.

Corey’s funeral was a solemn event attended by many, including local law enforcement, emergency medical services, and fire departments from across Pennsylvania.

Corey started his service in 1994 and at some point, in the 2000s he went on a duty as a fire chief. His colleagues were not surprised by his heroic actions at the rally, as they knew him to be selfless and brave.

Corey drew praise from Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro who described him as an incredibly ‘lovable guy’ while also describing his efforts to save his family during the shooting. Shapiro stated that, ‘Corey died a hero,’ and that, ‘His memory ought to be a blessing.’

Political analyst Ben Shapiro labelled his acts as true American heroism. He praised Corey’s bravery and selflessness, noting that his actions exemplified the best qualities of American citizens. Ben Shapiro also expressed his condolences to Corey’s family and called for unity and support for the victims of the shooting.
