Home Appliances

Home appliances are an essential part of our daily lives. From refrigerators and washing machines to vacuum cleaners and air conditioners, these appliances help make our lives easier and more comfortable. However, like any other machine, they require care and maintenance to not only function optimally but also serve you for years. And you might think maintenance is costly and time-consuming, but repairs are costlier. Hence, appliance maintenance should be your top priority. Here, Albert Fouerti shares expert tips for cleaning your home appliances.

“Appliance care and maintenance can be a daunting process and it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. However, there are simple things you can do yourself to keep the appliances up-to-par for as long as possible,” Albert Fouerti says. Here are some tips and tricks for taking care of your home appliances:

Refrigerator

The refrigerator is one of the most critical appliances in your home. It runs 24/7 to keep your food fresh and safe to consume. Here are some tips for maintaining your refrigerator:

Clean the Coils: The coils at the back of the refrigerator should be cleaned regularly. Dust and debris can accumulate on the coils, which can affect the efficiency of the fridge. Use a vacuum cleaner or a coil brush to remove the dirt.

Load the refrigerator properly: A good rule of thumb is to put in stuff that is about three-quarters full. don’t overload or underload your refrigerator. Overloading can block air vents from circulating while an almost-empty refrigerator works too hard just to cool a few items.

Keep the Refrigerator Door Seals Clean: The seals on the refrigerator door are responsible for keeping the cold air inside the fridge. Dirty seals can cause the refrigerator to work harder and consume more energy. Clean the seals with a damp cloth regularly.

Check the Temperature: Ensure that the refrigerator is set to the recommended temperature. Too low or too high temperatures can affect the quality of your food.

Washing Machine

The washing machine makes laundry easy peasy. Therefore return the favor with these maintenance tips:

Clean the Filter: The filter of your washing machine can get clogged with dirt and lint, affecting the efficiency of the machine. Clean the filter at least once a month to ensure optimal performance.

Check the Hoses: The hoses that supply water to your washing machine should be checked regularly. Look for signs of wear and tear and replace them if necessary.

Use the Right Detergent: Using too much detergent can damage your washing machine. Follow the instructions on the detergent packaging to avoid overuse.

Avoid overloading: putting a lot of clothes into one load can do your washer more harm than good. Clothes need adequate space during a wash cycle and that is why you need to wash in small loads.

Dishwasher Care and Maintenance Tips

A dishwasher is an appliance that can save you time and effort in the kitchen. Here are some tips for maintaining your dishwasher:

Clean the Filter: The filter of your dishwasher can get clogged with food particles, affecting the efficiency of the machine. Clean the filter regularly to ensure optimal performance.

Check the Spray Arms: The spray arms of your dishwasher should be checked for clogs or obstructions. Remove any debris that may have accumulated in the spray arms.

Use the Right Detergent: Using the wrong detergent can damage your dishwasher. Use only dishwasher detergent and avoid using regular dish soap.

Air Conditioner Care and Maintenance Tips

Regular maintenance of the air conditioner will keep your AC in excellent condition and cut down costs.  Here are some tips for maintaining your air conditioner:

Clean the Filter: The filter of your air conditioner should be cleaned or replaced regularly. A dirty filter can affect the efficiency of the machine and cause it to consume more energy.

Check the Coils: The coils of your air conditioner can get dirty and affect the efficiency of the machine. Clean the coils regularly to ensure optimal performance.

Schedule Professional Maintenance: Hire a professional to perform regular maintenance on your air conditioner. A professional can identify potential problems before they become serious and costly.

Vacuum Cleaner

A vacuum cleaner is an appliance that helps keep your home clean and tidy by picking up all the dust, diets, pet hairs, and everything else. Tips for maintaining your vacuum cleaner include:

Clean the Filter: The filter of your vacuum cleaner should be cleaned regularly. A dirty filter can affect the efficiency of the machine.

Check the Hoses: The hoses of your vacuum cleaner should be checked for obstructions or damage. Replace any damaged hoses.

Empty or change the vacuum bags: many “vacuum brands recommend changing the bag often even before it becomes full for a reason. A full bag prevents air movement through the bag and can decrease efficiency, Albert Fouerti says.

Dryer

You do not need to rely on the weather for drying your clothes, thanks to the clothes dryer. However, it also needs adequate maintenance, and failure to do so can lead to machine breakdown or even fire hazards. Here are a few maintenance tips:

Clean the Lint Screen: clean the lint screen using a soft fabric sheet, warm water, and detergent to get rid of debris.

Vacuum the Dryer: moisture, dirt can accumulate very quickly. Hence, vacuum the underneath and behind the dryer to get rid of anything lurking there.

Avoid Overloading: a heavy load of Stein’s dryer parts can lead to a breakdown. Therefore, aim for two-thirds of the dryer capacity.
