Rah Gz, originally named Ramon Gil-Medrano, was born on September 7th, 2004, in the Bronx. Coming from a Puerto Rican family, his upbringing in one of New York City’s most dangerous boroughs led him to establish connections with a local street gang called the 800 YGz. Unfortunately, this association often brought him into conflict with the police, resulting in three arrests within just 90 days before his untimely demise. Furthermore, Rah Gz frequently found himself in challenging situations.
In July 2020, he was a victim of a shooting at the intersection of Prospect Avenue and Oakland Place in Crotona. This incident that happened reminiscent of the manner in which he would eventually lose his life, leaving him critically injured and fighting for survival. Tragically, Rah Gz’s journey came to an end when he was fatally shot at the back of an Uber. His death echoes a life marked by violence, adversities, and brushes with the law.

The footage reveals two individuals riding on a scooter, who then approach the taxi and open fire through the rear passenger window, striking Rah Gz. Police officials announced the arrest of two teenagers on July 18, 2021, in connection with the tragic shooting of 16-year-old Ramon Gil-Medrano, which occurred on July 11, 2021. Ramon was found with multiple gunshot wounds to his head and chest on July 11, inside a livery cab located at 178th and Valentine Avenue around 11:30 p.m.
Authorities are investigating whether the shooting of Ramon was a result of retaliation for the death of a 13-year-old boy who was shot and killed hours earlier in the Belmont area of the Bronx. Police believe the earlier incident was gang-related.
Ramon, who was associated with the 800 YGz gang, had been arrested three times in the past 90 days, according to police officials.
Mekhi Williams, 19, was taken into custody on Saturday and is facing charges including second-degree murder, first-degree gang assault, conspiracy, criminal possession of a weapon, and reckless endangerment. Additionally, a 15-year-old suspect was also arrested on charges of second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon. Both individuals have previous arrest records and connections to gangs within the city, according to a senior NYPD official.
