The 2024 BET Awards, which honored the top performers, musicians, and entertainers, was a memorable evening. The event was held at the Peacock Theater in Downtown Los Angeles and was hosted by the vivacious Taraji P. Henson.
Usher, Killer Mike, and Victoria Monét were among the night’s biggest victors. Everyone who attended found the ceremony to be particularly memorable because of the outstanding performances and touching moments that it featured.
Tyla opened the show with her victory as Best International Act. She went on to win Best New Artist later on, making her one of the evening’s most notable debutantes. Together with winning the Best Male R&B/Pop Artist title, Usher also took home the Lifetime Achievement Award. Co-founders of L.A. Reid’s label LaFace Records, Babyface and he, presented the prize. Usher gave a thank-you speech and gave a reflection on his path in his acceptance speech. He praised the mentors who supported him along the way and told tales of his early days in the business. The evening’s moving high point was Usher’s speech.
Best Female R&B/Pop Artist went to SZA, who was not present at the event. The album of the year went to Killer Mike’s “Michael.” His album’s societal critique and thought-provoking lyrics have won accolades. During his acceptance speech, Killer Mike expressed his gratitude to his community and stressed the significance of utilizing music as a catalyst for positive change.
The BET was won by Victoria Monét. The award and video of the year went to her for the smash song “On My Mama.” Her performances were some of the evening’s high points. In her victory speech, Monét expressed her gratitude to her family, supporters, and team. Her accomplishments at the BET Awards are evidence of her brilliance and perseverance.
Regina King won Best Actress; she did not attend either. Although King was missed, her achievements to television and movies were honored. Her triumph demonstrated her skill and adaptability as a producer, director, and performer.
Megan Thee Stallion gave a dynamic performance to kick off the evening. Reminiscent to her album cover, she stepped out of a gigantic egg and played a few songs off her just released album “Megan.” Her captivating onstage persona mesmerized the audience, rendering her three-year absence from the BET Awards stage an unforgettable experience.
GloRilla, Ice Spice, Keke Palmer, Marsha Ambrosius, Summer Walker, Tanner Adell, Tyla, Victoria Monét, YG Marley, Sexyy Red, Muni Long, Shaboozey, Chlöe, and Coco Jones were among the performers that graced the stage that evening. It was a night filled of amazing performances since each musician brought their own style to the stage.
The celebration of Usher’s Lifetime Achievement Award was one of the highlights. Childish Gambino, Keke Palmer, Summer Walker, Coco Jones, Marsha Ambrosius, Chlöe, Tinashe, Victoria Monét, Teyana Taylor, and Latto all performed at the memorial. They recognized Usher’s incredible career with a stunning medley that included some of his best hits. Usher thanked God for the honor as he went on stage with the artists.
Taraji P. Henson headlined the four-hour show with style and passion. Adding her own unique touch to the occasion, she even performed the smash song “Not Like Us” by Kendrick Lamar. Henson’s hosting kept the audience engaged and happy the entire evening.
Another highlight was Killer Mike’s impassioned speech following his Album of the Year triumph. He discussed his life’s journey and the significance of his album “Michael.” Many in the audience were moved by his remarks, which emphasized the ability of music to bring about change.
With a stirring performance, Lauryn Hill brought the evening to a close by performing songs from across her career. Wyclef Jean, another member of the Fugees, and her son YG Marley accompanied her. Hill’s concert honored her continuing impact and musical influence.
It was much anticipated that Megan Thee Stallion would return to the BET Awards stage, and she did not disappoint. She gave performances of songs from her recently released album “Megan,” displaying her captivating stage presence and solidifying her place as one of the industry’s top performers.
Sexy Redd, Tanner Adell, Doechii, GloRilla, Shaboozey, Latto, Tyla, and Ice Spice were among others who gave other noteworthy performances. With a distinct vibe from each performance, the 2024 BET Awards became a celebration of varied musical talents.
